European Waste Reduction Week on 17th-25th November 2018

The European Waste Reduction Week is an initiative that takes place in the last week of November each year, where volunteers raise awareness of the importance of reducing waste and recycling materials by implementing their action ideas.

The University of Pécs has applied for the organization of the European Waste Reduction Week (17th-25th November 2018) coordinated by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. To act out the action successfully:

Planned programs for the European Waste Reduction Week (17th– 25th November 2018)

16th November

• We are continuing the campaign launched during the Packaging-free Week: Eco-friendly solutions beyond the nylon bag! - Display an awareness notice on the Green University website (see Attachments 2 and 3 at the bottom of the page and the bottom of the main page), University of Pécs Facebook page.

17th November

• Introducing a business card for university staff to make an eco-friendly business card from 17th November 2018

• Set duplex printing centrally by default, November 17, 2018

• Introducing a caption at the bottom of a university email address from November 17, 2018: „Kérem, ne nyomtassa ki ezt az e-mail-t, kivéve, hogyha szükséges.

Think Green - Please Don't Print This Email Unless It's necessary”

19th November

• European Waste Reduction Week – University of Pécs Newsletter re-circulating with programs to be implemented, targeting university citizens (all staff and students)

• Voluntary collection of household electrical and electronic waste by the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service: 19th November 2018 from 7 am to 10 am at 2 collection points (Szántó Office Building 7 am-8.30 am; 80. Rákóczi Road: 9 am-10.00 am in the designated parking area)

Bring e-waste!

The most important information about the casting: what can be cast: unused electrical or electronic equipment (washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, electric cooker, hairdryer, electric razor, iron, small DIY / drill, flex etc./, small household appliances / toaster, mixer, microwave, etc./, vacuum cleaner, sewing machine, heater, copier, computer, cell phone, DVD player, multimedia, etc.)!

What NOT takes over the Service: television, monitor, disassembled device.

• Charity collecting of toys, sweets with the help of the Hungarian Red Cross: 19th November 2018 from 7:00 to 10:00 at 1 collection point (Szántó Office Building Lobby)

Help us make the holidays beautiful for children in need!

The most important information about the submission is the importation of toys that are no longer needed but are in good condition and that have a valid shelf life, which will be offered for charity, with a view to the upcoming Santa Claus and Christmas holidays.

20 November

Voluntary delivery of expired medicine with the assistance of the UNIV Pharmacy: 20th November 2018, 7.30 am-9.30 am, at 3 collection points:

Chancellery (1/b Szántó K.J. street): In the right part of the inner area in front of the main entrance

Faculty of Law / Faculty of Business and Economics: Outside and inside area of ​​the entrance to the 48th square entrance (arcade)

Faculty of Sciences / Faculty of Humanities (6. Ifjúság road): In the left part of the inner side of the entrance to Ifjúság road

What is Waste Medicine?

o Expired medicine

o unused and therefore unnecessary medicine

o needle, syringe, infusion set used at home

Where can you take it?

Waste medicine can be disposed of at 3 designated collection points on 20th November, 7:30 am-9:30 am:

o Chancellery (1/b Szántó K.J. street): In the right part of the inner area in front of the main entrance

o Faculty of Law and Law / Faculty of Economics: Outside / Inside of the 48-door entrance (Arcade), right front door

o Faculty of Science / Faculty of Humanities (6. Ifjúság road): In the left part of the inner side of the entrance to Youth út

At the collection points, the staff of the PTE Clinical Central Pharmacy provides professional assistance.

How to place it?

o preferably in the original packaging (to reduce the risk of breakage)

o Carefully (due to the risk of stabbing and cutting)

• Voluntary delivery of used household cooking oil: 22nd November 2018, from 7 am to 10 am at 17 collection points in Pécs and 4 in the countryside. For a list of collection points, see the attachment at the bottom of the page.

The most important information about submitting is:

o Used cooking oil from deep fat cooking must be delivered in a clean, filtered condition!

o Any PET bottle can collect used cooking oil.

o Motor oil cannot be drained or taken over!

17-21. November

• Voluntary Residual Disposal of Batteries: Disposal of Batteries in Collectibles at the Offices of the University of Pécs: between 17th-21st November 2018.

17th-25th. November

• “Packaging-free Holidays”: In the run-up to Christmas, the European Waste Reduction Week looks forward to creative ideas (in the form of a photo or idea) on reducing Christmas wrapping paper on the Green University website. Details of the application can be found at http://zoldegyetem.pte.hu/news/csomagolas-free_unnepek_akcio. The 10 most original ideas will be rewarded with a linen bag of the University of Pécs!

• Detoxify! - The European Waste Reduction Week focuses on reducing hazardous substances for the environment, so we call attention and encourage everyone to act on 17th-25th November 2018.

Between 17th-25th November 2018, you can dispose of your household waste in the residential waste yards of Dél-Kom Nonprofit Ltd. The list and conditions of the waste to be submitted and the form to be filled in are attached at the bottom of the page. Waste can only be submitted with the form (attached)!

In the category of wastes that can be disposed of without quantitative restrictions (glass, battery, metal, plastic, paper). Between 17-25/11/2018, we thank the university's top 10 citizens who donate most of their waste for their active participation in the program.

• Contact children and ask them what they think about their waste production and what they do to prevent it from occurring in their daily school (or home) activities. - In the practice schools of the University of Pécs, the topic of the European Waste Reduction Week will be the generation and prevention of waste in the environment subjects and afternoon activities. (Title: Getting started with the zero-waste future!)

• Collect ideas in the school on how to reduce the amount of waste generated locally – In the practice schools of the University of Pécs, the topic of the European Waste Reduction Week will be a project and collaborative task for children to look at glass and then present the findings and points of interest to the class in a lecture.

• Creative re-use: With the involvement of the Faculty of Art of the University of Pécs, students make artwork using materials that have become waste.

o Wood sculpture: making artwork from wood waste from the Botanical Garden of the University of Pécs

o Formation of interior installation (furniture sculptures) from styrofoam

o Creating a 3D or visual art design

o Organization of a book exchange action on the European Waste Reduction Week: the libraries of the practice schools of the University of Pécs will compile a basic collection and the books brought by the children will be given a chance to buy, one by one.

o Workshop for Reusable "Items": Making items from waste in technology lessons at the practice schools of the University of Pécs during the European Waste Reduction Week: pen holder from toilet paper roll, making plastic flowerpots and bushes, mock-up from medicine box, pencil holder from milk box, small plate from newsprint, ornament creation with decoupage technique, lantern from jar.

o Introducing composting in the Botanical Gardens and on the website: students of practice schools of the University of Pécs watch the compost bins in the garden during the European Waste Reduction Week; Information and tips on composting can be found HERE.
