Droughts and floods: the worsening climate problems of our streams as seen through the eyes of a hydrobiologist

Speaker: Zoltán Csabai dr., Head of Department, Associate Professor, Department of Hydrobiology of the Institute of Biology of the Faculty of Sciences of the UP

Location: Knowledge Center, 0. floor, Conference Room

"Our watercourses are biodiversity hotspots and among the most vulnerable habitats. As a result of global climate change, habitat conversion and increasing water use in river basins, our formerly permanent small watercourses are sometimes experiencing unusually large and fast-moving flash floods, while other times increasingly prolonged drying out, putting the biota and, indirectly, the population under severe stress.

The hydrological, ecological, biogeochemical, and socio-cultural aspects of these increasingly intense impacts, the potential for near-natural solutions, and the potential of community science are also worth considering,

if we are to understand the challenges we face and mitigate the negative impacts on our daily lives.

Come to the lecture, learn about the problem and what you can do to help research."
