Eco Adventure Camp 2024

The No.1 Practical Primary School of the University of Pécs and the UP Green University Program launched an environmentally conscious, playful camp for children aged 6-10 years from 1-12th July 2024.

The camp was aimed at children who care about protecting our environment and want to gain insights into the most pressing challenges of sustainability through playful, experimental activities. The activities included learning about renewable energy sources, the eco-friendly packaging of the future, the importance of separate waste collection and the basics of sustainable development. Participants were presented with challenging tasks on each day, often assisted by floor robots.

In addition to the eco-tasks, the week also included a range of interactive activities. For example, promoting environmentally friendly transport, public transport and walking was a key part of the camp. The Highway Code Park provided an excellent venue for learning about traffic signs and conscious transport, where the children had the opportunity to test a number of sometimes tricky bicycles. In the UP Botanical Garden, enthusiastic "greens" collected water samples, which played an important role in the water experiments. To raise awareness about waste reduction, the campers also measured the pH of the water with a natural substance, red cabbage juice. The Pécs Zoo provided the children with a wealth of experiences and useful information, and they could learn about the zoo's inhabitants through play.
