On July 15, the president and vice president of the University of Indonesia's GreenMetric Survey Coordinating Team, Prof. Riri Fitri Sari and Mr. Junaidi, has come to the University of Pécs to be acquainted with the institution's commitment to sustainability and to personally introduce the past, the present an the future of the ranking list of the world’s green universities, international trends, indicators of the competition, the process of data provision. Organizations interested in sustainability issues of the University of Pécs, the City of Pécs and Baranya County were also presented at the meeting.
On 15 July the delegation was welcomed by Attila Miseta, Rector of the University of Pécs. Organizations interested in sustainability issues at the University of Pécs, City of Pécs and Baranya County were also present at the meeting.
They have spoken about the European Green Capital Competition of Pécs and the Climate Strategy of the region. Representatives from the University of Indonesia talked in detail about the key elements determining green rankings, such as waste management, the usage of water, transport, and research potential in environmental protection. Environmental awareness, energy efficiency, besides responsibility, mobilize serious creative energies. Today, all disciplines dealing with the subject: architecture, design, law, medicine, and political science. The interested ones could hear a foretaste of this during the counsel’s afternoon section.
The event aims to strengthen the dialogue between Hungarian universities and higher education institutions interested in sustainability, at the same time a more effective participation in the “green” international discourse with the University of Pécs and the University of Szeged as the Hungarian coordinator. The PTE Green University program is managed by the Chancellery.
As is known, for the survey initiated by the University of Indonesia, only 95 institutions in 35 countries provided data in the first year, in 2010. In 2016, 516 higher education institutions in 75 countries have challenged themselves, and in 2017 there were 100 more. While in 2016 the University of Pécs was ranked 355th, it jumped to the 179th place by the end of 2017 and became the 2nd greenest Hungarian higher education institution, and in 2018 the University of Pécs finished in the prestigious 140th place.
