The UP has ranked outstandingly well
Last year, for the first time, Times Higher Education (THE) published its ranking of universities' environmental, social and economic impact, based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This year, out of 767 universities in 85 countries, the University of Pécs was ranked between 301 and 400, and achieved an outstanding 45th place in the THE Impact Rankings 2020 in the fight against climate change.
THE's rankings, published on 22nd April, examined the performance of universities in a set of criteria based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. This year, six universities from Hungary took part in the ranking, with the UP coming in third place. Hungary's first university has achieved outstanding results in three of the Sustainable Development Goals:
- action against climate change,
- health and well-being,
- and decent work and economic growth.
"Universities competed on a total of 17 SDGs, of which the UP scored well in several categories. The overall ranking of higher education institutions is calculated on the basis of the three best scores plus the score in the category 'Partnership for Sustainable Development'. With regard to the latter, the University of Pécs needs to further develop its partnerships and social responsibility, and to strengthen the communication of its objectives both in education and to society. Of course, we are striving for continuous improvement in all these areas", Dr. Dániel Kehl, Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Pécs, told us.
